Not because your finish time doesn't matter, but because your attention is drawn to the breathtaking scenery around you: the views of Lake Neusiedl (Fertő), the rolling vineyards, the fresh spring landscape, and one of Hungary's most unique start and finish locations – the Fertőrákos Cave Theatre and Quarry.
The Fertőrákos Half Marathon is far from the bustle of the city. Here, every kilometer takes you through the UNESCO World Heritage landscape of the Fertő region, along scenic cycling paths, charming village streets, and routes offering beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
Runners on the 16 km and 21 km courses head towards Balf, accompanied all the way by the unique atmosphere of the Fertő region and the nearby lake.

Few running events can claim to start from one of Hungary's most unique locations. The monumental limestone walls of the Fertőrákos Quarry create a truly unforgettable atmosphere, even before the race begins.
🌅 Panoramic Views of the Fertő Region
Several sections of the course offer beautiful views across the Fertő landscape, the surrounding vineyards, and, in the distance, Lake Neusiedl (Fertő Lake). Sometimes it's worth taking your eyes off your watch for a moment and simply enjoying the scenery.
🍇 Vineyards and a UNESCO World Heritage Landscape
The Fertő region earned its place on the UNESCO World Heritage List for a reason. The race route takes runners through the area's characteristic vineyards, scenic countryside, and the charming surroundings of Fertőrákos.

This is not a flat course – and that's exactly what makes it memorable. The climbs will test your legs, but the rewarding views and unique atmosphere make every step worthwhile.

The Fertőrákos Half Marathon is not a massive race with thousands of participants. Here, there is still time for a smile at the aid stations, an encouraging word along the course, and the feeling that running should always be about enjoyment as much as performance.
The Course
The Fertőrákos Half Marathon course connects the most beautiful parts of Fertőrákos through a varied and scenic route.
The race starts at the Fertőrákos Cave Theatre & Quarry, from where runners head through the village streets before continuing towards the vineyards and panoramic routes of the Fertő region. Participants on the longer distances run towards Balf, accompanied throughout the race by the characteristic landscapes and unique atmosphere of the area.
The entire course is run on asphalt roads and cycling paths. While the route is comfortably runnable, runners should expect some elevation gain due to the natural terrain of the region. This is not primarily a race for chasing personal bests, but rather an opportunity to enjoy running in a truly special setting.
Each distance showcases a different side of Fertőrákos and its surroundings: the shorter routes highlight the charm of the village itself, while the longer distances take runners closer to the vineyards and panoramic landscapes of the Fertő region.

One of the unique features of the Fertőrákos Half Marathon is its start and finish location: the Fertőrákos Cave Theatre & Quarry, one of the most remarkable venues in Hungary.
Standing among the monumental limestone walls, it is easy to imagine the centuries of work that shaped this extraordinary place. The limestone extracted here was used in the construction of numerous buildings in Sopron and Vienna, while today the quarry has become one of the most iconic landmarks of the Fertő region.
The race centre, bib number collection, finish area, and award ceremony are all located at this spectacular venue, making it an experience in its own right – even beyond the running itself.
Whether this is your first visit or you're returning once again, the Quarry always has something new to reveal.

If you're new to running events or simply looking for a shorter and enjoyable race, the 6 km distance is a perfect choice.
The route takes you through the charming streets of Fertőrákos, allowing both beginners and experienced runners to enjoy the atmosphere of race day without taking on a longer distance.

The 16 km course offers a true taste of the unique beauty of the Fertő region. Leaving the village behind, runners head towards the vineyards and the scenic routes that make this area so special.
This distance is ideal for those looking for a rewarding challenge without committing to the full half marathon.

🏅 21 km – The Full Experience
The half marathon is the flagship event of the Fertőrákos Half Marathon.
The elevation changes, varied course, and spectacular surroundings combine to create a race that is both challenging and unforgettable. You may not set a personal best here – but there's a good chance you'll leave with a running experience you'll remember for years to come.
Distance: 21.1 km
No matter which distance you choose, you'll start from the same place: one of Hungary's most unique running venues.

Online registration includes race participation, professional timing, refreshment stations, a finisher's medal, and admission to the Fertőrákos Cave Theatre & Quarry.
Online registration opens on February 1, 2027.
To preserve the quality of the event and the running experience, the number of participants is limited.
Once the participant limit is reached, registration will close.

Awards
The top three male and female finishers in the overall classification of each distance will receive awards.
Awards will only be presented during the official award ceremony. Unfortunately, prizes cannot be collected later or shipped after the event.
Green Race
We are committed to reducing waste and protecting the environment.
No plastic cups or PET bottles are used at our events, and all waste is collected selectively after the race. Paper cups will be available at the aid stations and finish area, but we encourage all participants to bring their own reusable cup, flask, or bottle, which can be refilled along the course.
