🌿 Green Race
What we do — and what we consciously avoid doing — to protect the environment we run in.
Clean, untouched nature is one of the most important foundations of our events.
For us, this is not only a privilege, but also a responsibility.
Our goal is to leave the smallest possible ecological footprint behind us — ideally none at all.
Since our very first race in 2014, we have continuously worked to make our events more environmentally conscious.
Year after year, we introduce new solutions and improvements, and today, after more than a decade of experience, we can confidently say that in many areas we have become genuinely “greener” — while the quality of the race experience and event organisation has continued to improve as well.
♻️ What We Do
🎽 Race Packs
At our events, we consciously avoid traditional race packs filled with unnecessary product samples.
In our experience, most of these items are never actually used and eventually become waste.
The same often applies to packaging materials such as drawstring bags or promotional tote bags.
We only provide packaging at events where premium registration includes genuinely valuable items such as:
-
finisher shirts
-
mugs
-
tickets or other meaningful extras
Even then, we use paper bags only.
We understand that receiving a “race pack” feels exciting — but for us, it is more important to provide things that are truly useful rather than creating unnecessary waste.
🥤 Plastic & Paper
Since 2019, we have not used plastic cups or plastic bottles at our races.
At our aid stations:
-
water is provided from refill containers
-
runners are encouraged to use reusable cups
-
paper cups are available only as a supplementary option
At the same time, we also want runners racing at speed to hydrate safely and efficiently without having to stop for long periods.
The results have been very encouraging: more and more runners bring their own cups, and many also reuse their cups at the finish area.
Today, even after an event with 1000 participants, only 3–4 bags of selectively collected waste remain — including organic waste such as banana peels.
🍽️ Porcelain Dining
If we avoid plastic during the race, we do not want to compromise at the finish line either.
That is why hot meals are served using:
-
porcelain plates
-
metal cutlery
This is not only more environmentally friendly, but also provides a more comfortable and higher-quality dining experience for runners.
⏱️ Timing System
At our smaller events, we use our own gross timing system, which:
-
provides live online results in real time
-
does not require disposable timing chips
This reduces unnecessary waste while also making participation simpler and more comfortable for runners.
🚚 Logistics
In the early years, many event tools and structures had to be rented and transported from distant locations.
Today, we strive to:
-
own all essential equipment ourselves
-
minimise transportation needs as much as possible
This has not only made our events more efficient, but has also significantly reduced environmental impact.
🎗️ Course Marking
For course marking, we use reusable ribbons that can serve for many years.
Although they are made of plastic, they are repeatedly reused instead of discarded after every event.
During course marking, we also regularly collect litter found along the trails.
🏅 Finisher Medals
Finisher medals are often discussed as an environmental concern.
However, based on years of feedback from runners, medals are considered:
-
meaningful
-
valuable
-
lasting memories kept for years
For most runners, they are not waste — they are symbols of achievement, motivation and unforgettable experiences.
That is why every event receives its own unique medal design — what we lovingly call our “beautiful medals”.
Since every finisher receives this recognition, we do not consider age-group awards necessary.
At our races, only the overall winners receive additional trophies or special awards.
🌍 Looking Ahead
In the coming years, we will continue working to further reduce the environmental impact of our events.
We want these beautiful landscapes to remain places where we can run together for many years to come.
👉 And you are part of this effort too.
Come and run with us in this spirit.
